Realtor Credentials: What You Should Know before Hiring

When hiring a realtor it can be hard to know what to look for. These tips are here to make things a lot easier for you.

1. Credentials

The best realtors are licensed by the state they operate in. If your agent has additional real estate credentials, then it means they’re even more knowledgeable, experienced and reliable. Other credentials include training in selling luxury homes, commercial real estate, training in farm and ranch sales and so forth. If you have a home that has unique qualities, then consider using a real estate that has specialty training.

2. Savvy About The Area

Another good tip is to work with a realtor that is savvy about your area. Knowledge about an area is crucial and can make all the difference in the world. Zoom in as much as you can when it comes to choosing a realtor.

What this means is choose a realtor that knows a lot about specific areas of a city and region, and not just the city in general. If they are area savvy, they’ll be able to tell you about what’s trending in the area and what the current market conditions are like, as well as what homes that are similar to yours have sold recently and for how much.

Ideally, you want a realtor that has made regular sales in the region. The more specialized the realtor is and the more familiar they are with an area, the better. This means they will have a good chance of selling your property.

3. Personality

Another characteristic a realtor should have is a good personality. Think about it, you’ll be spending a tremendous amount of time with them. This means you need to like them and get along with them. You should enjoy spending time with your agent, as well as speaking with them.

You need to mesh well with your agent, otherwise you probably won’t have much luck selling your house. Plus, a real estate agent with a good personality probably has a higher chance of closing deals more than ones without a good personality. The bottom line is a realtor should get along with everyone.

4. Realtors Should Be Full-Time

Some real estate agents that work part-time do an amazing job, but full-time agents have the edge over the competition. Agents that work full-time devote their time to business and clients, without losing focus by trying to balance out other commitments. In turn, full-time agents tend to be more experienced and knowledgeable about the markets.

Agents that do real estate full-time are also more reachable. They are able to communicate regularly and more effectively. This is because they devote a good portion of their time to real estate.

6. Tech Savvy

Realtors must be tech savvy because tech is playing a major role in selling and buying real estate. If someone buys or sells a home, the chances are they are going online to do research. Home profiles include everything from background info to photos to much more.

Anyone can throw up a few photos and create a description. However, online marketing is more complicated than that and it requires a ton of skills and expertise. At the minimum, your agent should be knowledgeable when it comes to sites like Zillow and Trulia. They should also have a good idea of how to market your home online via various tools and methods, including social media.
